All the tiles that get worked on in my studio, come in so many wonderful varieties. Each person brings to the table their own experience. I love the way that tiles demands certain parameters. Bold designs seem to work best. If you are in Friday Harbor please give me a call, to schedule your party or event.

designs

Off for the week-end, but will return by Sunday. Worked last weekend painting the name on the fishing vessel 'Margaret J'. Here she is in beautiful Friday Harbor. I do more than paint tiles.
One of the panels to be part of the mural will portray the fishing fleet that has been a life sustaining industry. This grand old lady certainly has fed thousands. Time to work on the designs.

Come Play!

The change in the weather brings me back to the core of the Studio. All last week the door open brought several people in. They came here for a 'Spirit Health Day' (sometimes the expectations of the world can crush us) You too? The Answer? Play!
We played in tile. One young man designed and completed three really nice tiles. His dragon and castle are part of the wonders of watching children express themselves in ART. I continue to test the nine boxes of tiles with the supposed chosen tiles for the tile mural. One tile from each box is given the possible colors chosen.
Before they will be fired I will have to fill the kiln. This takes 54 tiles ! I am a quarter of the way there. Come on over and create a tile.
If you know where I am and need to take a mini creative holiday, Come play at my studio:
50 Malcom Street at the Centennial Mural Studio & Chinmayo Studios.

FUNDING

It feels like I have been gone awhile. The change of seasons has descended on the Islands. RAIN AND CLOUDs ,creating a very different feel to our town.
I was also waiting to see if the San Juan Islands Community had decided to fund the Centennial Mural Project.
The answer is NO.
So? What is happening? Lot's.
I have met with the structural engineer and the professional tiler who soon will cut a hole in the wall in order to make an informed decision about the next step.
I am also testing the designated tiles that were purchased this summer making sure of the color consistency on the different tile batches.
I have prepared the studio for people to come together, and all the glazes for our first panel.

I have begun the campaign to solicit funds for the wonderful wall.
After all one has to remember:
100,000 dollars only means that; 100 people give the project $1,000 dollars OR
1000 people give the project $100 dollars OR
2000 people give the project $50 dollars .....OR???
It is just more foot work.
And the miracle is that many wonderful people have begun to contribute.
Their names will be included in the wall as sponsors . Nice work folks.
So congratulations all you people who are participating in History of the Tile Mural on Blair St. of Friday Harbor, and THANK YOU!!!
Those of you out there who would like to be included in this golden opportunity, please,
write a check to the town of Friday Harbor for your Tax deductible contribution.
and contact me to let me know the name to be included in The Wall.
Cheers,
chinmayo
